The word "ho'o" means "cause" in Hawaiian, while "ponopono" means "perfection". The term "ho'oponopono" can be translated as: "righting a wrong" or "making it right".

It is a practice that does not require much teaching, but is powerful for purifying one's body and getting rid of bad memories or feelings that hold the mind in a negative attunement.

The term became known from an experience lived by the therapist and teacher, Ihaleakala Hew Len. As unbelievable as the story may sound, this man managed to cure an entire pavilion of criminals suffering from mental illness in Hawaii without even talking or interacting with any of them.

By analyzing the charts of each patient, the therapist applied the key words of ho'oponopono, and the repetition of the technique changed their state of mind. Consequently, the inmates' mental activity also changed.

The results were so amazing, in a nutshell, that Len was able to heal the prisoners as he healed himself.

How ho'oponopono works.

The practice starts from the assumption that everything we know as "reality" is experienced in an individual way by our mind. What you feel, hear, see, and even the things or people you meet are influenced by your inner self.

Therefore, everything that happens around you involves your participation, since you are responsible for what you think and feel. Have you ever noticed that, many times, we ourselves can be our own worst enemies? This happens because each thought can activate a mechanism that recreates a world (even if illusory) of problems.

The main goal of ho'oponopono is to seek the healing of these problems through forgiveness. Not necessarily the forgiveness of others, but mainly of oneself.

This is done with the understanding that what happens to you doesn't matter, but what you do with what has happened is what really matters. If your mind and your thoughts have caused you problems, they are also capable of solving them.

1. I am sorry.

By saying you're sorry, even though you don't know how it's doing you any harm, you bring awareness that somehow you've made a mistake-even a weak one-and that's why this bad charge has come into your life. It is a way to exercise humility and acceptance.

2. Forgive me.

This request for forgiveness is not only to the one who did you wrong, but it is a forgiveness for yourself. In recognizing that you fail, that you are human, you ask forgiveness of yourself. Your life and you are valuable, forgiving yourself for your weaknesses is one of the main points.

3. I love you.

Connects you to the most extreme of the spiritual. It transforms the bad energy into something of an essence of compassion and welcome. It is as if you are clearing out all that negativity that seeks to bring you down.

4. I am grateful.

Gratitude must be sincere and deep. It should come from the understanding that everything will pass, that you believe that soon you will be free or healed from what has harmed you, and also that for this reason everyone around you will benefit.

All of them try to guide the practitioner through these four sentimental stages: repentance, forgiveness, love, and gratitude.

The simple repetition of these words is capable of activating the release of blocks, negative memories, and traumas, so that you can take more tranquil control over your own body and life.

We can say that ho'oponopono is a problem-solving process that must happen entirely within you.

Benefits of ho'oponopono

Regeneration of cellular memories through ho'oponopono.

Have you ever had the feeling of reliving a traumatic situation over and over again, as if you were watching a movie playing in your head?

This is because all our pains, worries and fears are generated and stored in our cellular memory. Ho'oponopono acts in this area as a cleansing, neutralizing the memories of suffering and uncomfortable feelings.

Being the protagonist of one's own life

At first, the idea of responsibility and accountability may seem too rigid, but over time you may be surprised at your level of independence and pro-activity.

By letting go of the feeling of helplessness linked to the idea that suffering is caused only by external, uncontrollable factors, it is possible to transform your beliefs and not have a victimistic posture, increasing your sense of personal power.

Emotional Stability

With the release of negative energies, emotional balance is enhanced, as blocks to self-realization, happiness and wholeness disappear, making room for new perceptions and inner peace.

In addition, the ho'oponopono practitioner gains the freedom not to obey negative memories. This can transform you into a calmer person with a more positive outlook in the face of adversity and problems on your path.

Healthier relationships.

Whenever we get involved in a disagreement or conflict, we tend to think that only others are wrong.

Ho'oponopono helps deconstruct this passive posture so that the practitioner can understand that he is also part of the problem, and when he changes, his relationships change too (for the better, of course!).

How to get started with Ho'oponopono.

Just say (mentally or out loud): I'm sorry. Forgive me. I love you. I am grateful.

You may already begin to experience feelings of compassion, new inner sensations, or a simple relaxation of the mind as soon as you finish saying all the words for the first time. When the energy that was blocked begins to be released from the cells, it is also common for practitioners to feel the urge to yawn or sigh.

This program fills you with the energies of:

- Unconditional acceptance of yourself and others

- Unconditional Forgiveness for yourself, for others

- Unconditional Love for yourself and for others

- Unconditional Gratitude for everything
